In reading all three items I'm wondering is the "50 Canadians" is not a mistranslation of the fact that 'Craig' is "50 something" years of age. See third para of the first article.

I agree that the information provided is 'suspect' and your interpretation could be correct.

I’d guess the same, given the quote comes from a rewrite in Turkish state media (included that because there’s not much else out there in English yet). If there were 50 x Cdns in custody, the NK News piece would have likely mentioned that pretty prominently.
